What to do in La Courneuve

Wide open spaces, a committed culture and a modern heritage!

La Courneuve is much more than just an emblematic city. With its immense Parc Georges-Valbon, its committed cultural venues and its architecture that bears witness to the 20th century, the town is full of surprises. Here, we move from a green setting to urban spots steeped in history, between working-class memory and assertive modernity.

The must-haves

With its 417 hectares, Parc Georges-Valbon is one of the largest green spaces in the Paris region. With its lakes, waterfalls and meadows, it’s the perfect spot for a nature break just outside Paris. On the cultural front, the Jean-Houdremont cultural center keeps the local scene alive with shows, concerts and artistic residencies that give a voice to all forms of expression. Finally, for those who enjoy amateur artistic practice, La Comète, a former cinema, offers everyone the chance to discover the world of live performance.

La Courneuve a symbol of 20th-century architecture

La Courneuve’s industrial past is reflected in its urban planning. The Mecano factory, now transformed into a media library, bears witness to the working-class bustle that shaped the town. The cité des 4000, long a symbol of 20th-century collective housing, is now being transformed into a new district with a strong identity. More discreet but just as striking, the Albert 1er garden city, with its small working-class houses and leafy alleyways, is a reminder of another face of social housing, one that is more human and visionary.
