A land of events

To the rhythm of major sporting and cultural events.

Whether sporting, cultural, educational, artisanal or festive, each year is punctuated by numerous events, reflecting the region’s diversity and cultural dynamism. Plaine Commune is also a recognized host of major international sporting events: Rugby World Cup France 2023, Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, Six Nations Tournament, European Swimming Championships 2026…

The Stade de France and the Olympic Aquatic Centre, places of intense emotion

These major sports and event venues host national and international sporting competitions every year, and there’s plenty to look forward to in the years to come.

Created for the 1998 Football World Cup in France, the Stade de France has undergone several phases of renovation, enabling it to host 2 Rugby World Cups (2007 and 2023), the Euro 2016 Football Championship, certain matches in the Six Nations Tournament, the World Athletics Championships, the French Football and Rugby Championships, and finally the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Saint-Denis Olympic Aquatic Centre, meanwhile, was inaugurated for the Paris 2024 Games. In 2026, it will host the European Swimming Championships.

A land of festivals

From classical music to world music and hip-hop, there’s something for everyone in the region. The Festival de Saint-Denis, for example, offers a top-class classical program at the Basilique Saint-Denis. The Hip-hop festival in Saint-Denis has been showcasing all facets of urban culture (rap, slam, dance, graffiti, etc.) every year since 1990. There’s also the Villes des Musiques du Monde festival, with its year-round programming drawing on the diversity of world music and local and international players in the field.

The region also vibrates to the sound of the Banlieues Bleues Festival, a not-to-be-missed event for jazz and improvised music. Every spring, it brings clubs, halls and unusual venues to life with an audacious program of big names and young talent, all in tune with the cosmopolitan soul of Plaine Commune.
